Mentorship Circle
The Mentorship Circle is a group coaching program for small business owners, independent contractors, and parents exploring working for themselves. We come together and support each other as we navigate the delicate balance of family, self, work, and play.
This circle is all about connection, support, and mentorship around the intersection of parenthood, small business owner/independent contractor work, and everything else that comes with life (relationships, friendships, finances, so much laundry, and more)! We’ll explore finding the right balance of those elements for ourselves and share our experiences and ideas with each other. Additional one-on-one support will help you through your unique challenges.
We're expanding our mentorship circle and forming two cohorts -
Exploration/New Small Business Owners for parents who are in the "exploration stage" or are just getting started working for themselves.
Established Small Business Owners for parents who have been working for themselves for a while and are looking for more community and support from other small business owners.
Some of the themes we'll explore are:
- Balance of the different aspects of our identities - self, parent, spouse, family member, friend, small business owner, etc.
- Our primary relationships - division of labor, changing relationship dynamics
- Finances - including income, childcare, our relationship to money
- Healing from burnout and creating a new self/work culture
- and more
The program will include:
- Six bi-monthly Group coaching/circle sessions (two per month, 1 hour each)
- Three individual mentorship/coaching sessions (one per month, 30 minutes each)
- Resources, articles, worksheets, etc.
- Support between sessions
These circles offer a unique opportunity for self-employed parents who often are working in isolation to connect and share deeply with others in a similar situation. We'll explore and implement creative ways to make working parenthood work for us and for our families.

Elizabeth found a unique connection among entrepreneur moms growing their own businesses while trying to maintain work-life balance. I appreciated the opportunity to have honest, open discussions and learn from others through their journeys. I always felt welcomed to share challenges and felt not only validated, but also supported with suggestions and recommendations from the other members. I look forward to cheering the other moms on in their pursuits and value their encouragement. |

Who can join?
We welcome ALL parents and embrace diversity in background, sexual orientation, gender, age, race, religion, etc. This group is specific to parents who are exploring working for themselves or who are already small business owners. First-time, second-time or parents with many more children are welcome.
How many people will be in my circle? What will they be like?
Each circle will have between 4-9 parents. Some will be well on their way in small business ownership while others may have recently left full-time employment or be contemplating the shift to self-employment.
Where do we meet?
We are currently offering circles in-person on a well-ventilated screen porch in Silver Spring, MD. Please note, we require participants to be fully vaccinated to attend in-person circles, otherwise you can join the circle via zoom.
Can I bring my baby/child?
Please check in first! We often can make accommodations for your child(ren) to attend with you if necessary, but like to speak with participants to make sure it will be a good fit.
What if I need accommodations for a disability?
We strive to host circles that are inclusive, accessible spaces for all parents, including those with disabilities, to engage in. If you have an accessibility need please mention it in the registration form and we'll follow up with you directly.
What do we talk about during the sessions?
In our bi-weekly meetings we'll have a specific topic to discuss as well as time for each person to check-in and share their current challenges and successes. In our one-on-one coaching calls the content will be what is most helpful to you that month.
What makes the Mentorship Circle different from other groups?
The mentorship circle is a place for parent small business owners to connect in a real, authentic way around how this unique role effects every aspect of our lives. These circles allow parents to explore our shifting identities, go deeper into how to navigate the changing relationships in our lives, and truly share with others who are in it with you.
Why should I join?
Modern-day parenting is exhausting and often lonely - and even lonelier when you are making your way on your own work-wise. We're here to bring back essential connections, talk about our under-valued role in society, dive into the challenges of being a parent and small business owner, and really be there for each other.
Can I drop-in to one week or start mid-session?
We don't have drop-ins as each week we build on the previous week's content. We also share the details of our lives and it's not conducive to have parents just come for a meeting or two. The positive part of this is when everyone commits to the group it creates a really wonderful and supportive place to return to.
What if I am going to miss a week? Is there a way to make-up?
Due to the session/cohort model there are no make-ups.
What if I changed my mind? Can I get a refund?
Refunds (minus a processing fee) are available up to two weeks ahead of the start date. Cancellations made between two weeks and one week before the start of the circle receive a 50% refund. No refunds are available after one week prior to the start date.
Can I give the Mentorship Circle as a gift?
Absolutely! It's a wonderful alternative to more "stuff." Simply contact us and we'll provide you with a personalized gift certificate.
