There was just a really great recent thread on our companion list serve about essentials for a hospital birth - especially items not covered by the basic lists available online. Here are what 10+ moms in our community shared...
Picture
For you:
-meals (in case you deliver after meal service ends)
-snacks like granola bars, honey sticks, fresh fruit
-drinks (gatorade/powerade/coconut water)
-pillows (in non-white pillow cases so you know they are yours)
-breastfeeding pillow
-nursing/pumping bra
-compression socks if blood clots are a concern
-change of loose-fitting clothes (breastfeeding-friendly if desired - like an open-front sweater or zip-up sweatshirt and loose at the waist to minimize contact with a c-section scar)
-PJs/robe
-underwear to accommodate pads/ice packs (in case the mesh underwear provided doesn't fit) and/or adult diapers
-slippers or socks with grippy bottoms
-flip flops if you want for the shower
-earplugs
-chapstick
-dry shampoo
-deodorant
-face cleansing cloths or eucalyptus towels
-glasses (in case you don't want to mess with contacts)
-insulated water bottle
-phone charger with extra long cord
-lavender spray
-heating pad

For your support person:
-more food!
-overnight supplies (toothbrush, change of clothes, pillow)
-nice camera and charger

For the baby:
-outfits
-baby footprint kit
-sound machine

Plus, take EVERYTHING HOME! Fill bags with supplies for mom (mesh underwear, nipple cream, freezer pads, numbing spray, peri bottle etc.) and baby (diapers, wipes, formula, wash basin, swaddle blankets).
