Relationship Spring Cleaning: A Workshop Series for Couples

A space to reconnect and prioritize your relationship.

This relationship series is for couples who intend to make time to connect with their partner on important topics, but can't seem to find the time, or the right method, and need  accountability and support. Led by an experienced and licensed couples therapist, the series will provide guidance for important conversations and a framework to help you create a stronger connection and mutual support in your relationship.

Oodles of books and professionals recommend couples have regular check-ins to align and troubleshoot. And the idea sounds promising. Until it comes to execution. Schedules get full, topics are amorphous and loaded, urgency wanes, and inertia makes it easier to punt to next week.

This workshop series is a place where you can make it happen: think of it like tidying up and decluttering your relationship. Each workshop will be part education on the topic, part in-the-moment communication practice, and part reflection as a group.
For this 5-part relationship spring cleaning series, we'll meet virtually every other Wednesday night from 8:45-9:45pm. And off-weeks, you'll be nudged with resources to explore as a couple.
April 8th: Being curious
There's a lot that gets in the way of curiosity, including assumptions and resentment. Clearing away barriers to curiosity can foster mutual understanding, more effective problem solving, and feelings of closeness. We'll examine what's in the way and how to be more genuinely curious.

April 22nd: Sharing gratitude
Although gratitude is well-researched and simple, it can be hard to access in moments or stretches of difficulty, exactly when you need it most. We'll look at how to dial up a meaningful positive feedback loop as a foundational practice to foster feeling valued and appreciated.

May 6th: Getting responsible
Going through a rough patch, partners often think the other is the problem. Responsibility means reflecting on what's happening for you, expressing yourself, seeing your role in a pattern, and owning your feelings and reactions, all of which gives you better footing to navigate conflict. We’ll name ways to break blame habits to hear each other better and feel more capable.

May 20th: Connecting values and choices
When couples have a hard time making decisions or get stuck in stalemate or resentment, it's helpful to examine what's really mattering to each person. We'll talk about how to have conversations around values and how clarifying them together can help guide choices.

June 3rd: Accessing needs, dropping resentment
One of the toughest relationship cornerstones to really get is this: we all have emotional needs and when they aren't met, resentment can build. In this workshop, we'll explore needs and strategize how to increase satisfaction and reduce resentment in your relationship.
If space is available, we will offer the option to join the workshops a la carte for $100 each per couple. If you are interested in that option, please complete the registration form below and we'll be in touch.

Relationship Spring Cleaning FAQ

Who can join?
We welcome ALL parents and embrace diversity in background, sexual orientation, age, race, religion, etc. This workshop is specifically for couples to join - together if possible. Workshops are usually a good mix of new and veteran parents - first-time, second-time or parents with many more children are welcome.

Who is this series ideally for?
Any couple that wants to make time for key conversations that support the relationship. Whether these topics are new to you, or you’ve done exploration of them in the past, we expect you'll get a new way to understand or practice.

How many people will be in the workshop? What will they be like?
The workshop will have between 4-9 couples. They are looking for support in their relationship and to gain tools and strategies to use now and in the future.

Where do we meet?
The workshop will meet virtually - we know getting both parents somewhere requires a lot of coordination!

What do we talk about during the workshop session?
Each session has a topic (see above for the schedule).

Is it worth coming to one or two if we can’t make all five of these sessions?
Absolutely. You can join when you're able. While sessions may reference prior week’s conversations, and the skills collectively support each other, each workshop is independent. If we have space, you'll be able to sign up for one workshop at a time.

Do I need to participate with a partner? Can one of us join if we can’t both be there?
For sure. You won’t be able to do the practice conversations with your partner, but during that portion of the workshop, you can self-reflect and share it with them later.

Is this a therapy group?
No, this isn't therapy, but it is led by a therapist and could complement your couples therapy or be a jumping off point to begin couples therapy. The format is a mix of reflection, practice, and education.

What if I changed my mind? Can I get a refund?
Refunds (minus a processing fee) are available up to two weeks ahead of the start date. Cancellations made between two weeks and one week before the start of the workshop series receive a 50% refund. No refunds are available after one week prior to the start date.

Can I give the Workshop series as a gift?
Absolutely! It's a wonderful alternative to more "stuff." Simply contact us and we'll provide you with a personalized gift certificate.
